Apollo’s tenement area is located 30 km east of the Challenger Gold mine. The Challenger Gold mine produced 446,000 oz gold by the end June 2007 and presently has a remaining gold resource in excess of 1 million oz.
Calcrete geochemical surveys carried out in the 1990’s revealed evidence of gold mineralisation in the east of the tenement area particularly at the Birthday, Mars and Comet prospects. This work was scaled down due to weak gold prices in the late 1990’s, leaving the prospects insufficiently tested. Imaging of calcrete gold data suggests that the eastern part of the tenement area covers a regional gold concentration. Further testing of the existing data is needed using improved calcrete geochemistry techniques not available in the 1990’s.
